Also known as a dragoon and sometimes called a wristbreaker due to the length and weight of this early sword, this is a pre-Civil War saber from the Mexican War era. Carried by the regular Army troops, these sabers were issued to the men and carried from the 1840s until the late 1860s. A new model sword was made in 1860 for the troops, shorter and thinner, making the blade easier to carry into battle.
There were only 450 of these made in 1845 – making it a rare and collectible date for swords. This saber also has the proper inspection marks for the U.S. cavalry. $1,895
