Found in a junk box, this cook book comes directly from a young woman’s 1861 diary. Signed, “Mattie DuLac, Friendsville, Susquehanna Cty, Pennsylvania,” the pages are filled with hand-written recipes. Mattie must have loved her sweets, because the majority of recipes are for desserts. Over 200 recipes were entered in the diary, but for editing purposes, about 160 were included in the book’s final version. Living historians and cook book lovers alike will enjoy cooking from these authentic, tried and true recipes.
